Power Outage and the Philippine Elections

If you ask the government and the politicians, the Global Warming and the El Niño are to blame for the series of Power Outages in the Philippines. But if we have anybody to blame, it’s not the El Niño, it’s our politicians who would often choose the populist views rather than protecting the investors. That’s why investors refuse to invest in the Philippines because we’re not business friendly. They also fear that the government will just renegotiate their contracts. Populist politicians would always bow down to pressure from all sectors of our society even if it meant destroying our credit ratings.

We need investors in the energy sector in order to stop the power outages in our country. Just yesterday, the distinguished gentleman from Cagayan de Oro suggested of giving PGMA an emergency power to solve the power crisis not only in Mindanao but to the whole archipelago. It’s absurd because even if the congress decides to give PGMA emergency power, it would still take years before the investments and the generating capacity will take effect. I say, let the next Philippine president handle this issue… and that next President is GIBO.

The current power outage is also the subject of so many speculations. We can’t blame people from fearing another rigged election. In 1992, Fidel V. Ramos won courtesy of the power outage. Lumalaki ang kanyang lamang everytime there’s a power outage. I feel sorry for Inday Miriam because she still can‘t move on. Who could when you know that the presidency was stolen from you? Fidel Ramos victory they say is Cory Aquino’s legacy, the legacy of manipulating the election results.

So can they really manipulate the election results considering that we’re going automated? I think they can …and they will… whatever it takes to become the Philippines next president.
