Laban Bawi?

Looks like it’s not only the Bb. Pilipinas Charities Inc. (BPCI) who’s fond of Laban – Bawi but the Department of Justice (DOJ) as well. DOJ Secretary Alberto Agra who earlier absolved ARMM Governor Zaldy Ampatuan and his cousin Acting Maguindanao Vice Governor Akmad Ampatuan Sr. from their involvement of in the murder of 57 people in Maguindanao last year issued a statement that he’s going to review his own ruling.

The DOJ secretary has lately been attacked by the media and the families of the victims of the gruesome murder. He was even caught in the camera shedding some tears. He’s in a very vulnerable position since he could never please the families of the victims. At the same time, he should not file a case if there’s a possibility that the case won’t prosper especially if they (DOJ) could not prove that the accused is guilty beyond reasonable doubt.

Yon na nga, the ugly thing with the ongoing teleserye is that both he and the prosecutor fought in front of the media. They could have solved all their disagreement discretely and not publicly. They just embarrassed themselves in front of the public eyes. I feel for the family of the victims. However, in the Philippine setting, journalists resort to envelopmental journalism and are always irresponsible in their reporting. That could be the reason why some of them were included in the murder. If you’re a victim of irresponsible media, you won’t resort to filing libel. Libel cases could take years without prosecution. That’s the reason why people who were victims of irresponsible media would take the justice in their own hands.
