Nang dahil sa Grape Seeds

A colleague of mine sent me a forwarded email about the grape seeds that caused the imprisonment of a Filipino man in Dubai. Apparently, the man was made to confess that the Grape Seeds that were found in his bag were that of Marijuana. The wife of the Filipino man ruled out that they were planted by the DXB Airport Authority. The Airport Authority on the other hand stand firm on their investigation.

I have no way of confirming the authenticity of the circulated email. The email could be another urban legend. However, even if this story is an urban legend, it still teaches us a lesson to always be on guard. We all know that we’re in an Arab country and laws here are tough. They do not make any excuses when they implement their laws. I am sorry about the misfortune of the couple but as they say, laws are laws.

Obama to close Guantanamo

True to his election promise, President Obama proposed the closure of the Guantanamo Bay and move terror suspects to regular jails in the mainland United States. His plan was however countered not only by the GOP but by his own Democratic allies in both houses of Congress. He is now faced with the problem of having no budget for that proposal. The House of Representatives threatened to reject all Obama’s budget proposal for the Guantanamo closure.

NOT IN MY BACKYARD

Americans who started to be paranoid since the 9/11 attacked refuse to accept the proposal that Terror Suspects with jailed in the mainland America and tried on regular courtrooms. Some even suggested that the terror suspects were dangerous as they could spread their religious belief to the American jails.

Budget is important for Barack Obama’s plans to be realized. If this proposal of his will not have enough funding, surely, he will not be able to deliver his election promise.

Katrina Halili – Hayden Kho Scandal

Some of you may have already seen the widely circulated sex video of Katrina Halili – Hayden Kho. I’ve just seen the sex scandal video myself. There was another bonus video with Maricar Reyes-Hayden Kho but of course people are more interested with Katrina Halili. I’ve seen Katrina crying herself out over nationally syndicated gossip news yesterday and I never felt pity on her. I’ve always been unapologetic to my opinion and I’m sure that a lot of women may raise their eyebrows on what I’m going to say to Katrina Halili.

The circumstances that Katrina Halili faced were a result of her own action. If she did not agree to have sex with Hayden Kho, none of these would have happened. She allowed herself to sleep with Hayden Kho without knowing that the person is sick. Hayden Kho loves videotaping his sexual escapades. Her emotional outburst maybe genuine but I don’t buy the victim mentality that she’s trying to project. Since the issue has become so hot, a lot of politicians wanted to jump into the bandwagon just to gain extra publicity.

Our technology today is so advanced that viral videos such as this could spread like wildfire over the web in seconds. If you are not careful, one mistake could destroy you.

Lupang Hinirang

There’s big fuzz about how Martin Nievera, the ageing and ‘has been’ singer sung our National Anthem at the Pacquiao-Hatton fight in Las Vegas. The National Historical Institute says that Martin Nievera deviated from the traditional beat justifying it as his artistic interpretation of the song. I say it’s not about artistic interpretation or wanting to be different. It’s his EGO that wants him to sing the song differently.

I don’t understand how Martin Nievera, an American Citizen was given the opportunity to sing the ‘Lupang Hinirang’ at the World Stage. The experience and opportunity should be given to the true blue FILIPINO artists.

Mother’s Day

I greeted my Mom ‘Happy Mother’s Day’ last Sunday and I also told her that I love her. She is, after all the most important woman in my life. She gave me life, nurtured me with love and affection and I would not have live into the adulthood without her.

The fondest memory that I had with my mother was when I was younger and I would commute daily to school. She prepared my breakfast, my bath and my pack lunch daily. She made it a point to wake up early and do all those stuff to me.

As a teacher she’s very strict but when it comes to her children, she’s not the disciplinarian type. Dad was the disciplinarian in the family and if we made mistakes, like a mother hen, she’d protect us from Dad. Mom’s strength of being overprotective with her children becomes her weakness. My other siblings, now adults abuse her tolerance and love for them. It breaks my heart when I hear that my other siblings made her cry. There was even a point where I really wanted to bring her here to live with me.

There are a lot of great things about my mother. Surely, you too think that your mother is great. Mother’s day should not only be celebrated once a year. We can make every day a mother’s day by telling our mothers that we love them.
