ICC issues arrest warrant for Al Bashir

ICC issued an arrest warrant to the sitting president of Sudan, Omar Al Bashir for genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes committed in 2003 against his own people. He is the first sitting head of state to be indicted by the International Tribunal. He masterminded the ethnic cleansing of Fur, Masalit and Zaghawa by murdering and raping them.

After the indictment, Al Bashir expelled international aid agencies and NGOs that helps feed the displaced people from the Darfur region. He believed that Aid agencies are responsible for fabricating lies against him.

Al Bashir should be liable to what he did to his own people. He killed his own people instead of protecting them. The people of Darfur suffered from killing, raping, hunger and other inhumane treatment. They will now face hunger as aid agencies are kicked out of Sudan. There’s no way that the Sudanese government would be able to feed all of them, another disservice to the helpless refugees.

DXB’s new Guidelines

People would raise their eyebrows if they will hear that Dubai, the freest among the 7 Arab Emirates is taking tough stand against what they considered as inappropriate behavior like kissing in public, holding hands, nudity and playing loud music. I wouldn’t be surprised if this edict comes from the Kingdom of the Sands but definitely not from Dubai.

As we all know, Dubai has a diverse culture brought about by different nationalities that lives and work there. The population could be low skilled from Asia to Western professionals. Among the other things, alcohol is served everywhere.

This guideline should serve as a warning to OFWs working there. We’ve learned the hard way (from the past) that laws are laws here and innocence of the law is not an excuse. This is not the Philippines where everyone has an excuse however absurd the excuse maybe.

Blogger’s Responsibility

Nebs asked a thought provoking question in his blog about the blogger’s responsibility. This was my reply to his posting.

‘The reason why I'm blogging is that I don't want to be constrained to the editorial standards of any media which most of the times are biased. My responsibility I believe is to protect my freedom to express myself. I am lucky that I am not in China or Myanmar where internet access and contents are controlled by the government. I believe that with freedom comes responsibility. Since most of our media are irresponsible and are blinded by their personal interests, it is our duty as bloggers to expose, critic and protect the truth.’

The subjects of my blog are those that interest me the most. I am oftentimes accused of being sarcastic but that’s me. I can’t help it! I was born being one and being old and all, it’s difficult to break the habit. Without the normal journalistic restrictions, the blogger is only responsible to himself. He should stand his ground and fight for what he believes in.

Promotion

I am not the kind of person who would brag about something but this time, I couldn’t help myself from doing it. Yeah, right, you bet! I finally got it. I was promoted with effect on 1 January 2009. With it comes not just responsibility but monetary factors.

When I look back, I was pretty contented with what I have. I have a reasonable salary, good working environment, kind boss and stable company. I already have everything to be happy and I was thankful for it. When the world went on the recession, I was even more thankful because I get to keep my job. You see, when you are thankful for the blessings you have, you have no bitterness and regret. You can sleep well at night and would go to work the following day happy. I never expected being promoted but I saw it coming. I am very proud to say this because I am a hard working person. I work well and I consistently have a high marks on my performance evaluations. I also know how my boss, his wife and family love me! This promotion has motivated me to do better.
