Jamby the nuisance candidate

Last week, Jamby Madrigal declared her intention to run for the Presidency. Minutes after her declaration, the Nationalista party of Senator Manuel Villar issued this statement:

“The Nacionalista Party welcomes the entry of Senator Madrigal into the presidential derby. She will continue the tradition of independent presidential aspirants who dream of becoming president,” said NP spokesman, former Cavite Rep. Gilbert Remulla.
“She now joins the ranks of (nuisance candidates) Eddie Gil and Atty. Ely Pamatong in making Philippine elections a colorful democratic practice. Her declaration is also a vindication for Senator Villar,” he said.

The statement was sarcastic to the extent that Jamby Madrigal was compared to Eddie Gil and Ely Pamatong. In fairness to Jamby Madrigal, she’s from a very wealthy and influential family. She also won a senatorial slate and that doesn’t make her a nuisance candidate. But Jamby’s declaration that she’s running for the highest post of the land only confirmed the suspicions of the many that the C5 scam was politically motivated. Reports also suggest that Jamby knows that she’s not going to win the presidential election. She’s just aiming to be in the senatorial slate of the UNO. Her declaration of running for the presidency is just a political move.
